Choosing the right size is one of the most common questions our customers ask – especially deciding between 135 × 200 and 155 × 220 cm. Here you will find an overview of all four standard sizes, a simple rule of thumb, and answers for couples.

135 × 200 or 155 × 220 cm – what is the difference?

135 × 200 cm is the classic German standard size. It fits into any standard duvet cover and is suitable for most people. 155 × 220 cm offers 20 cm more in width and 20 cm more in length. That may not sound like much, but it makes a noticeable difference in everyday use: your shoulders and feet stay covered, even when you turn over at night.

When is 135 × 200 cm the right choice?

• You are shorter than 1.85 m.
• You tend to sleep quietly and don't move around much.
• You are looking for a duvet for a single bed or an individual duvet in a double bed.
• It is important to you to find suitable duvet covers everywhere.

When is 155 × 220 cm the right choice?

• You are 1.85 m or taller.
• You move around a lot at night and are active in your sleep.
• Your shoulders or feet stick out from under the 135 cm duvet.
• You sleep on a wide single bed of at least 120 cm.

What length do I need?

For heights up to about 1.85 m, a length of 200 cm is sufficient. If you are taller, choose a duvet with a length of 220 cm so that your feet stay covered at night. This rule of thumb applies equally to individual duvets and shared duvets.

One shared duvet or two individual ones?

If you sleep at different temperatures or move around a lot at night, two duvets in 135 × 200 cm (or 155 × 220 cm for taller people) are usually the better choice: there will be no arguments over the duvet, and everyone can choose the right warmth level – for example, a summer duvet for one person and an all-season duvet for the other. If you like the feeling of a shared duvet, choose 200 × 200 cm for beds that are 160–180 cm wide or 240 × 220 cm for wide beds and tall couples. Is a larger duvet just as warm?

Yes – as long as the fill amount increases accordingly. At Traumwelt, the fill increases with the size so that every size is equally warm. Example of an all-season duvet with 90% down:

What about duvet covers?

For 135 × 200 cm, you can find duvet covers in any store. For 155 × 220 cm, the selection is slightly smaller but still good – both sizes are standard in Germany. Frequently Asked Questions

Is a larger duvet always better?
No. A duvet that is too large will hang down a lot, appear heavier, and often won't fit in the existing cover. Choose the size to suit your bed and height.

Can I use a 155 × 220 cm duvet on a 90 cm bed?
Yes. The duvet will hang down a little more on the sides. For tall people, it is still worth it because of the extra length.

What pillow size is suitable?

What is an oversized duvet?
This usually refers to 155 × 220 cm – 20 cm wider and 20 cm longer than the standard size of 135 × 200 cm. It is worth it from about 1.85 m in height or if you move around a lot at night.

Does a 200 × 220 cm duvet fit in a 200 × 200 cm cover?
No. The cover is 20 cm too short, the duvet will bunch up inside, and the fill cannot distribute evenly. Always choose the cover in the same size as the duvet.

Which duvet is best for a 160 cm wide double bed?
Either two individual duvets in 135 × 200 cm (or 155 × 220 cm for tall people) or one shared duvet in 200 × 200 cm. Two duvets are the better choice if you sleep at different temperatures.

I am switching from 135 × 200 to 155 × 220 cm – what do I need to consider?
Above all, the bedding: Your old covers will no longer fit, so you will need covers in 155 × 220 cm. You can keep the same warmth level, because at Traumwelt, the fill amount increases with the size.
