How do you wash a down duvet?
When to wash?
We recommend washing your down duvet 1–2 times a year. More frequent washing is not necessary – airing it out daily is more important. Lay the duvet by an open window for 15–30 minutes in the morning.
How to wash it properly
- Use a large-capacity washing machine (at least 7 kg capacity)
- Washing program: delicate or down cycle at 60 °C
- Detergent: mild delicate or down detergent, no fabric softener
- Maximum spin speed: 800–1000 rpm
- Rinse twice to remove all detergent residue
Drying – the most important step
With down duvets, complete drying is crucial. Damp down can mold and smell unpleasant.
- Dryer recommended: low to medium temperature (setting 2–3)
- Add 3–4 tennis balls or dryer balls – they shake up the down and prevent clumping
- Drying time: 2–3 hours, shake out several times in between
- Only remove the duvet when it is completely dry and fluffy
- Alternatively: dry outdoors in fresh air (no direct sunlight) and shake out regularly

How do you properly store your duvet?
If you want to store your duvet seasonally:

- Do not compress or vacuum-seal – the down needs air
General care tips
What you should do
- Air out daily – shake out the duvet in the morning and lay it by the window
- Wash the duvet cover regularly at 60 °C
- Use a pillowcase – protects the pillow and extends the time between washes
- Occasionally refresh the duvet in the dryer – even without washing
What you should avoid
No fabric softener: It damages the down fibers and reduces breathability. Also: do not dry clean and do not dry in direct sunlight – this puts strain on the cover.
Frequently asked questions
What can I do if the down clumps?
Clumps are usually caused by incomplete drying. Put the duvet in the dryer at a low temperature with 3–4 tennis balls for 30–60 minutes. The balls shake up the down and distribute it evenly.
